To benefit from Smart Fare, you must choose between using a Copper card or the Valley Metro app (not both)
Tap your Copper card or scan the Valley Metro app every time you ride; it's required
You will never pay more than the daily/weekly/monthly maximums listed above

Sue Saves with Smart Fare

Sue takes a local bus every day to and from work and pays full fare.
Sue taps her Copper card on her way to work - she pays $2.
She taps her Copper card on her way home - she pays another $2.
Sue has paid $4 in one transit day.
Sue takes a third trip in the same day. She taps her card again but no value is deducted. She's already paid the $4 daily maximum.
After Sue pays $20 in a week (Mon.-Sun.), she won't be charged for any trips she takes the rest of the week.
If Sue continues riding frequently, she'll only pay $64 in the calendar month. She won't be charged for any trips after that until the end of the month.
